My First Hen Do and Back to School

I can't believe it's been over a week since I last posted on here. How time flies! It's been really hectic as the last two weekends I've had to go back to Sheffield. Last week it was because I had to attend a study weekend for the course that I'm doing and this week it was for Harjit's hen do. Not long until her wedding day now!

Last Saturday was incredibly tiring. I got to Sheffield late on Friday night and went to my mum's house. She is having a bit of a revamp of the downstairs of the house, so it was in a bit of a state of disarray as there were walls being knocked down and kitchens being put in. Our poor old cat, Leila who must nearly be 18 now seems to have gone blind from all the stress. Poor Leila.

The next morning I was up early to go to the university, then Saturday night, I met with Tasha and we had a night in front of the TV, chatting and eating lots of delicious home made food. It was really nice to catch up after so long.


Sunday it was back to university, then my mum came to meet me at 3 and we ambled around Weston Park museum before saying goodbye in Fancie.



Afterwards, I went to see Caroline and Ari and Ari made a delicious 3 course meal for us, including lamb tagine. We had enough time for me to teach them the rules of Yanif before I had to set off home on the mammoth 3 hours journey back to Norwich.

This weekend was equally hectic, Nick and I went to watch a film called '71 at Cinema City in Norwich, which I would highly recommend. Saturday morning I took the train to Sheffield, Louise came to pick me up and we did some last minute errands ready for Harjit's hen do.

We were staying at the Hilton Hotel, so we went there to decorate the room before she arrived. She was so shocked when she arrived.

We started the night with some cocktails in Revolucion de Cuba, then had some Italian food at Antibo's before we went to dance the night away in Crystal.


The next morning, I left the girls to go to the spa and went to meet my Dad and Margaret. It'll be Margaret's birthday in a couple of weeks time, which I won't be able to make, so we went for a meal at a local restaurant.

Before i knew it, it was time to get back on the train and head back to Norwich. It takes just under 4 hours on the train, but luckily Anna Jones was on the same carriage so we passed the time by chatting about our weekend!

It's Tramlines Time!

Every year my lovely city, Sheffield, has a festival called Tramlines. The name comes from the fact that Sheffield is one of the very few cities in England to still have a working tram, I love the fact that it's called Supertram!

It always takes place in Summer and I remember when the festival used to be completely free. Most of the clubs and pubs and public spaces get involved, holding music events for everyone to enjoy. My favourite memory from last time was watching the Everly Pregnant Brothers do their rendition of 'No Oven No Pie' at the Fat Cat, then taking the special event bus back to town which had an acoustic duo playing on the top deck for passengers to enjoy while they travelled.

I've been lucky enough to see dananananaykroyd,  Ash and the Everly Pregnant Brothers before. This year I'm really looking forward to seeing Sister Sledge, Funeral For A Friend and Annie Mac. I also love the spirit of the city when it's filled with people having a really good time.

So here are some photos from the last time I was there, in 2011. Sophie, my friend from uni came up to stay and we had lots of fun. I can't believe how much I've changed since then!

Weekend: Sheffield

With my time in Sheffield coming to an end before I feel like it's even started, I've tried to fit lots in this weekend. I am working for the next 4 days, then have Friday off to prepare for the big move down to Norwich next Monday, then starting work at my new job on Tuesday!

It's all go at the moment as Nick has managed to get himself a job as a teacher at a summer school for foreign students. It sounds perfect for him as he is teaching older children, it lasts for 5 weeks, right up until we officially should have moved to Norwich, and hopefully will put a few pennies in his pockets.

My weekend started when I switched off my computer after what felt like forever on Friday evening at 5pm. I headed into town to start browsing for a dress to wear to my old housemate, Harjit's wedding. Sadly I didn't find anything so I decided to leave it for another day and went to meet Louise for a few drinks.

We met at Caffe Leopold on Leopold Street for some sparkly prosecco. I don't really know what's happened since I got home but the world seems prosecco mad at the moment. I'm not going to complain though as the one we had in the bar was incredibly delicious.

Following that we went to the Bamboo Door tiki bar that Fury, James and Sheena introduced me to last time I was out with them and we had a lovely mango cocktail. It was really refreshing and perfect to drink while sitting outside enjoying the evening sun.

We went to our old haunts back when we used to work together and went to Walkabout and the Common Room and finished off our night with a Desperadoes. Louise had to dash off but I had enough time before my last bus to meet the lovely Caroline and Irene for one.






I collapsed into bed at about 12:30 after a very busy first week working. 4 days left until I leave again!

On Saturday I spent the day sorting out my wardrobe. I gave a whole bundle to charity, some had to be thrown away and the rest I put on a website that I'm going to talk about later in the week!

That evening I went for a meal with my dad, my step-mum, my grandad and my sister to a restaurant just across the road. The food was delicious and I finished all of my lemon merangue pie! Poor Millie has had a bit of a traumatic week after her pug, Patrick, was hit by a car. Luckily he survived with just a few cuts and bruises and hopefully he will be back to his usual mischievous self soon.

Sunday morning I was up early again to meet my mum for a day trip out to the Derbyshire Dales. It was not too far from where we took Nick, but this time we went to Matlock and Cromford to have a wander around the shops and we spent hours in a little book shop that I'm sure I'll be visiting again as soon as I'm back in Sheffield!




Sunday evening was spent doing a little more of my British Sign Language Course, cooking a favourite recipe of mine and planning for the busy week ahead!

Weekend: ENGLAND!

I can't believe it's already the 2nd of December! That means my Monday morning started with 2 pieces of my advent calendar chocolate bar! Small things!

I have to say that my first weekend in England feels more like a week, just because I managed to get so much done. I'm all cobwebby and dusty at the moment as I've spent today running up and down into the attic, trying to clear out some of my things! I feel insanely energised after going to bed really early last night after a long weekend! But this pile that I need to sort out makes me kind of feel exhausted!

On Friday I was still really tired from the flight, so I just ran some errands and called around to sort things out. I had breakfast with my Grandad, it was really nice to see him after so long. I think he's had a tough time these last few months but he doesn't tell me while I'm away, I guess so as not to worry me. But he did seem cheerful, which was good.

Then, in the afternoon I went to get my hair cut. It's been 9 long months since my last hair cut so it was desperate for it. Especially because of my over heating hair straightener incident, and the fact I still pick my split ends, a lot!

Friday night I went to my mum's house and we had some chinese food and went for a wander around Tesco. I know it's sad, but I really miss English supermarkets! I really miss knowing what everything is and seeing what I can do with things. It's really hard to cook in Korea when you can't read the instructions!

On Saturday, my mum and I headed into Sheffield early. We had a wander around the Christmas Market and I treated myself to a few goodies from Lush, I'll share more with you tomorrow. It's so nice to feel so Christmassy, although I'm trying not to catch the Christmas bug as we won't be at home, we'll be in Argentina by then!







Lizzie, my friend from uni, joined us at 1 and we grabbed some lunch at the Showroom Cinema before going to watch the Roller Derby. I was sad that my old team, Sheffield, lost, but it was fun to watch. Especially as the new rules mean that the whole game has changed since I last played in the UK. It looks like it's much harder work to be a jammer now. But check out how amazing Kandy's leggings are! I love her derby wardrobe!



Following that, Lizzie and I went home and met up with stacey and Lucy, we all got ready and then went for some food at Nandos before going out for some cocktails. Knowing me all too well, Lizzie bought me some Amaretto with a Moschino designed bottle. It was lovely to see them, especially drinking tasty drinks and listening to great music! I did feel old though!


On Sunday morning the girls headed off, so my Dad and I went to check out some of the gear I'm going to need for my South America trip, then went to check in on Millie as she was moving house. It feels weird that my not-so-little sister is growing up so fast! In some ways it feels like nothing has changed since I've been gone, and in others, it feels like so much has changed!
